I moved back to the Hudson Valley in 2013, after being gone for almost 5 years. I traveled the country in an RV and lived in over 6 states…. after a while, I got tired of the nomadic life and was finally ready to put down some roots again. I was also ready to put down some professional roots and to get more serious about my new health-coaching practice. I was ready to start expanding my business, and I wanted a home base to GROW my practice/community.
I made myself a nice, cozy home office. I got a desk and filing cabinet. I put out a noise machine and hung a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door. Most of my clients were remote, and I would go to the library or local cafe to meet with the ones who were local.
I was also homeschooling three daughters. And of course kids always have some sort of “emergency” (she took my sweater; there’s no food in the house—EVER; she is chewing too loud, I’m bored!!… you know, emergencies).
There were also the dishes and dirty laundry nagging until they eventually pulled me out of my office, whipping me into submission OR as soon as I would get on a call, the dog would start barking like crazy at the neighbor’s nasty cat. The cafes were always noisy, the library wasn’t always available, the only adults I had conversations with were my mother and the mailman.
One day while scrolling through my Facebook feed, I saw a post from a fellow IIN (Institute for Integrative Nutrition) grad I had met briefly. She was looking to rent an office space in New Paltz and wanted to know if anyone was interested in sharing. It took me about two seconds of contemplation before I answered the ad, and within days, we were looking at a three-room office in town.
I didn’t really know this person very well, the wall colors were popsicle orange, salmon and mint green, the lighting was terrible, it was 3 rooms more than I really needed… so naturally, I said YES.
It was the craziest YES I’ve ever given. (ok—if you know me, you know that’s not true. But it was definitely in my top 5!)
It didn’t take long before we turned our new office into a PROFESSIONAL, WARM and INVITING space…using creativity and imagination it transformed into the beginnings of a new way to do business.
How did we do this and what crazy ingredients make up our secret sauce you ask?? Some of the answers will surprise you! Stay tuned for more……
This story will continue.
You WILL hear from me again, from my incredible partner, Julie, and other “characters” along the way. This journey has been an EPIC TALE, and it continues to evolve and take extraordinary turns and twists. This life has been a rollercoaster ride of adventures, lessons, growth, community, friendships, collaborations, and unexpected leaps of faith.
